prospect park

back in new york,
it’s still winter.

2am snow walk with nick and henri.

prospect park

henri turned seven years old

and in the past year he’s lived three different lives:
sir henri of east putney who tried to herd sheep in the english countryside
(if you look closely, he’s the little white speck hopping behind the sheep),
ong-ree of saigon who likes sightseeing from my backpack on the scooter

and now mr. muffinhead is back in his hometown of new york,
in our little corner of soho after a trek through the city with his old shiba inu friends.

park saturday

it’s finally starting to feel like spring in london.
had planned on going to st. james to see the daffodils,
but decided on hyde instead so henri could chase his squirrels.

i can’t believe my saturday afternoon was determined by a funny little animal with a stupid haircut.

every year, he gets a steak.

happy 6th birthday little dude.

henri malshi

henri malshi

my favourite sound in the world – it’s a tie between his snoring
and this little ah yep, i am perfectly content noise he makes with his mouth
whenever i kiss his head and tell him,
“you are the most handsome dog in the whole world.”

waiting for gus(dot)

status update on this year’s new years resolutions:

  • leave the five boroughs at least once a month – so far so good
  • take mom to costa rica – i think she wants to do italy or japan instead
  • make three short films – one down, two to go
  • learn how to play the ukulele – it’s… going okay :)

wednesday night’s awesomely bad sing-a-long to the most ridiculous song ever written.

winter cabin trip

phan and kristin.

gina surprised neil with a birthday cake.

makeshift sleds the next sunny day.

warmed up by the fireplace afterwards and played a bunch of board games circa 1970’s.

baked cranberry, chocolate chip, walnut cookies stuffed with bananas, marshmellows and oreo cookies.

but rain and i really took the cabin trip for our dogs.

nothing makes me happier than seeing henri pounce around like a bunny rabbit
with his face covered in snow.

henri in elk grove, ca

“hallo suburbia!”

henri, malshi, dog, car window

hello williamsburg

i arrived home to this on my front door

beware of dog

(this would’ve been more accurate.)

and this (censored) on my wall.

beware of dog

i suspect it was, once again, the shenanigany-doings of this floozy.

friday night

i am the best photographer.

i don’t know who this kid is, but he was fun.

kim in bliss with her taco at the woods.

not just any good time…

friday night was also the first night the four of us have ever gone out together.

currently listening to:
not a huge fan of indie rock,
but i really like arcade fire.

so you’re standing on the opposite shore.

weekend in the catkills

an every few months or so escape from the city noise.

gina and jenni.

i’ve decided, for halloween, imma dye henri orange; barkley from sesame street.

it was so dark at night that being outside surrounded by fireflies
felt like being surrounded by stars.

(don’t worry, i set them free.)

<3 dave, who had no experience in the kitchen, but was down to de-head and gut a slimy catfish for me.

rain playing fetch with the dogs.

a few more pictures here.

currently listening to:
lots of billie holiday from my iphone speakers while lying on the dock of the pond.

no regrets

a sunny saturday (finally)

afternoon stroll through the neighborhood

with my two favorite rat catchers.

manhattan bridge from williamsburg bridge.

josh caught up with me on graham ave.

dumont burgers.
he tells me, “i just want something good.”
we all want something good,
just gotta sift through a whole lot of bs to get to it.

currently listening to:
something good kinda feels like the first thirty three seconds of al green.

no one like you

good morning to you too!

kim’s fanny.

kim just admitted to me that this one time she got too drunk and dropped henri on his head.
i was like, “that’s okay.. this one time i was smoking and i accidentally ashed on fanny’s head.”

henri is eleven months old.

not sure how many futurama fans there are out there,
but the ending of the ‘jurassic bark’ episode has to be the saddest thing ever.

[click here to view, if video doesn’t load.]

henri’s sprawled out next to me sleeping,
and i’m crying because this episode makes me realize
how much i love him
and how one day
he is going to be a very old dog.

labor day weekend cabin trip

with seven friends, four shibas
and my little happy dude.

the cabin we got this time wasn’t as sexy as last time’s, but it had charm.

cheese + pineapple + jalapeno + BEEF = :D

the creek nearby.

as dorky as this picture is, it brings me much joy.

substituting missing pieces.

playing around with shutter speed.

adam‘s got a knack for figuring out songs when he hears them,
but he says, “it’s just chords.”

at one point during the trip,
we were alone on the front porch fooling around, playing random songs
and he improvised “tous les garçons et les filles” for me to sing along to.

[adam doesn’t speak french, he just likes to pretend like he does.]

14 days in iphone pics

with help from the camerabag app (out of order):

kimmie is the cutest.

adam loves al green as much as i do.

korean bbq.

rain rehearsing on fire escape.

kimmie tries to ease my devastation.

henri’s leaf-stache.

4th of july fireworks over hudson river.

on our way to legion, by josh.

it seemed like a good idea at the time.

why brooklyn feels like home.

i hate hipsters and their retarded performance art, destroying pianos on bedford.
breaks my heart.

three had my attention, two have my affection. josh is one of them.

suzanne gave me my new year’s resolution this past january:
“no self-sabotaging.”

but i have a lousy track record with boyfriend/girlfriend relationships
so it only makes sense that i avoid them.
at least for now.

but then josh sends me
a video of him playing the guitar, singing, “i’m going crazy without you”
and i get all mooshy inside and then i don’t know what to do.
currently listening to:

you got me where you want me, but i ain’t all there

rosemead, california

isabella loved henri very, very much.

they played

and played.

but when the weekend ended and we had to leave, i told izzy to say goodbye to henri,
and she screamed, “no!”

and cried

and cried.
