happy birthday to me.

my friends are scattered around the world,
but i found a way for twenty of us to do something together for my birthday this year.

the request was simple.
1. blast wreckx-n-effect’s “rumpshaker”
2. hit record on the camera
3. dance
4. send me the footage

an anniversary of my 25th birthday

a quick paris weekend was more trouble than it was worth
so i spent my birthday in town.
had dinner with two of my best friends, phan and kim.

these two crack me up.
kimmie suggested i embellish my blog so that when i’m old and senile,
i can look back and be like, “oh wow, i was so cool.”

and then our dinner conversation became absurd, silly prattle.
“if you skydive naked, do you let out like, the biggest queef when you land?”
“what do you say to a girl with two black eyes? nothing, you already told the bitch twice.”

but then we started going through our bucket list and i realized how simple mine was
and that i could pretty much accomplish all of them this year if i tried hard enough.
some of the things included?
        – jump off a cliff
        – ride a camel
        – aurora borealis

and then i hung out with some friends on a bus (with michelle).

adorable jenni took a bunch of pictures, but my stupid mug is in all of them.

so i’ll spare you.

i’d like to think we were dancing to this song in the picture above.

winter cabin trip

phan and kristin.

gina surprised neil with a birthday cake.

makeshift sleds the next sunny day.

warmed up by the fireplace afterwards and played a bunch of board games circa 1970’s.

baked cranberry, chocolate chip, walnut cookies stuffed with bananas, marshmellows and oreo cookies.

but rain and i really took the cabin trip for our dogs.

nothing makes me happier than seeing henri pounce around like a bunny rabbit
with his face covered in snow.

this time, i play wedding photographer

5:45am penn station to catch train to jersey.
“meet me in front of my verizon ad.”
“wait, what?”

my 2nd shooter is like, famous.

my favorite shot from the day was actually taken by u-shin. so much joy.

phan and i were being wistful tonight, listening to old school jamz
because we’re homesick for last decade, southside san jose.

this got me all choked up inside.

very special

my dog is canadian, aye.

phan [here’s the video i helped him with for the island reef job]
has become one of my best buddies in new york
because he’s totally the male version of me.
we were both overachieving private school nerds raised in ghetto san jose,
surrounded by wannabe gangster vietnamese deviants who’d call us white-washed
because we had absolutely no interest in karaoke coffee shops, rice rockets or azn pryde.

then we met in new york, as transients adjusting to the natives’ abrasive attitudes
and trying to discover as much of the city as we can before our hearts pull us back into the bay area.

one huge difference, i didn’t lose my virginity at 26.
so someone has been making up for lost time by slutting it up.

haaaay ladies…

but seriously, all the mỹ trắng girls love him.

last weekend, we took a roadtrip to canada.
mad mad fun.

vieux montréal.

then we headed three hours west to desolate farmland, renfrew,
to pick up a little ball of fluff.

meet henri, named after the prince in drew barrymore’s “ever after.”

getting ready to attack.

he’s super tiny.

landlord is putting in grass and a new fence next week.
in the meantime, i’ve been trying to keep him away from the dirt
because he’s discovered digging.

sometimes he sleeps like a torpedo (all four legs sticking straight out)
and sometimes he sleeps like this.

[crappy iphone camera]

don’t be fooled by this innocent face;
he’s a poop eater.
