last wedding of the season with mackler

it’s -that- smile.

and the bride and groom. i like how she smiles when he kisses her.

the entire gallery shot by julian, ben, madison and me is here.

all these weddings have turned me into a big, fat sack of sappy.

neither kim nor i have found “the one” (i hate how corny that sounds),
but i admitted to her that i had already started my reception music playlist.
she said, “oh, that’s nothing. i’ve already written my vows.”

shifting gears in december; flying out to los angeles to shoot movie stills.

this time, i play wedding photographer

5:45am penn station to catch train to jersey.
“meet me in front of my verizon ad.”
“wait, what?”

my 2nd shooter is like, famous.

my favorite shot from the day was actually taken by u-shin. so much joy.

currently listening to:
phan and i were being wistful tonight, listening to old school jamz
because we’re homesick for last decade, southside san jose.

this got me all choked up inside.

very special

all the girls like a song they can dance to

mike is also a design student at pratt,
so shooting with him was a really fun collaboration. :)

in the makeup chair.

artsy-fartsy musician shots.

a common habit among “artists”: sleep deprivation
which kicked in
and then things got, colorful.

frightened by the little things. bed bugs, wedding rings.

we decided to go a different direction with the web design,
so now i’m left with half a dozen images from the recording studio
that are basically useless
until i come across another musician who needs a website done.

aroksun the magician

traded aric some pictures for a pack of parliament lights.

shooting practice

kevin liked the pics i took of their performance
and asked if i could shoot some band photos for them.

(a big yes and a small no):

jonti, kevin, jonathan, joe and eric.

san jose, california

only two days here before driving to socal for che chanh’s wedding.
did my best to make time to see my best friends vi, rick and jeremy.

jeremy wanted to learn how to use his new nikon dslr
so we mobbed around in his rv taking random pictures.

last night, rick and i headed to campbell pool and pizza,
where i first learned how to shoot with gina when we were 16,
where i’d go every time i needed to de-stress by smacking balls around,
where we spent our youth.

i cannot express to you how sad i was to see the building boarded up and shut down.

currently listening to:
speaking of my youth,
puiki recently track id’ed a song that’s been stuck in my head
for the past ten years.
it was jackie cheung, not andy lau,
and the refrain kills me.

doggie this, doggie that.

when jimmy and i broke up,
i lost my photo adventure partner in crime
and consequently have been very uninspired to take much photos.

but ever since i got henri,
i’ve been meeting so many wonderful dogs and taking tons of doggie pictures.
now seriously considering being a pet photographer.

kyle’s olivie

alex’s alvin

a pug named simon i met at my neighborhood dog run

rain’s kit

and of course, henri

who has his own blog
not because i’ve become some fanatic who’s obsessed with their dog,
but because my family and friends keep asking for pictures,
so i figured it’s easier than sending mass emails every other day.

currently listening to:
the line that gets me, “somewhere maybe someday, maybe somewhere far away.”

little person

another side project

to amuse myself and practice taking pictures:
“cute boys whose names begin with the letter ‘j'”,
a b&w photography book on, you know.

jimmy. test shots.

sometimes he reminds me of vincent perez.

jonathan and jose said they were down.
now i just need another good twenty-two
jason, justin, jeremy, josh, jared, jacob..(s).

currently listening to:
been falling asleep on bailey’s tummy every night this past week to

mi peru

the six seconds from 1:43 to 1:49 makes me feel all gooey inside.

all the djs do it, all the djs use it.

back in mid-september,
i spent a few days at my cousin’s house in san francisco
where i arrived crying, heartbroken,
where her husband baked me cookies,
where i pulled out her old disney piano book and spent all evening on her baby grand,
where they auspiciously convinced me that i would be okay.

i told suzanne i would miss her terribly and
she came up with this wonderful idea for how we could stay in touch.

each day, every other day,
we’d post a photo from our lives.

like when the sandwich maker at the deli drew a heart on my container box with a sharpie,
like at the l.e.s. french restaurant where i suddenly had a good day when the waiter called me “love”
as in “yes love, what can i get you love?”
and like when i got really sad because i was really hungry,
but then i dropped the noodles on frankie’s kitchen floor.

suzanne is on the left, i’m on the right.

currently listening to:
when i first got my license,
heather and i used to mob around san jose blasting this song

this was before i knew what falling felt like and before i became such an asshole.

where have you been?

i couldn’t access livejournal in beijing,
but i could still access tubgirl mirrors.
dude, haven’t we learned that censorship doesn’t work?

now back in saigon.
i was teaching my aunt’s english class before leaving for china.
it’s so awesome to come back and see that the students still remembered
it’s pronounced “happy birthday”, not “happy bird-day”
and that it’s “good”, not “goot.”

davey, tommy and their entourage have been taking really good care of me
like finding me cheeseburgers and taking me to clubs that don’t suck.
so when they asked me if i could do a test shoot for six of their models,
i was like sure.

except wtf do i know about shooting fashion models?
not much, but i figured it couldn’t be too different from shooting anything else.
totally different style than i’m used to, but it’s fun to try new things.

tommy. switchout.
i’m realizing i like his test shots more than the ones from the actual photoshoot.

how awesome is our lighting set-up? :D

currently listening to:
been pretty obsessed with this song recently.
