it's oh so quiet

it’s sort of become a tradition,
quiet upstate cabin trips every few months,
to get away from the commotion that is new york city.

some random pictures from the weekend.

currently listening to:
tony’s weekend playlist made me sad at times.

kissing a fool

winter cabin trip

phan and kristin.

gina surprised neil with a birthday cake.

makeshift sleds the next sunny day.

warmed up by the fireplace afterwards and played a bunch of board games circa 1970’s.

baked cranberry, chocolate chip, walnut cookies stuffed with bananas, marshmellows and oreo cookies.

but rain and i really took the cabin trip for our dogs.

nothing makes me happier than seeing henri pounce around like a bunny rabbit
with his face covered in snow.

concrete jungle where dreams are made of

i told didi new york was like the abusive boyfriend who keeps beating the crap out of me
but i can’t leave him because the sex is too good.

then kim gave me a better analogy,
“california is like the cool, awesome aunt you sometimes visit and have fun with,
but new york is your hard-hitting dad, who you try so constantly to win approval from
and one pat on the back from him means the world. ”

but rain said it best,
“if you move home because you can’t make rent,
then you don’t belong in new york.”

and so here i am, hustlin’.

sometimes i build websites to feed the belly.

but right now,
i feel like i’m spending more time feeding the belly,
than feeding the soul.

weekend in the catkills

an every few months or so escape from the city noise.

gina and jenni.

i’ve decided, for halloween, imma dye henri orange; barkley from sesame street.

it was so dark at night that being outside surrounded by fireflies
felt like being surrounded by stars.

(don’t worry, i set them free.)

<3 dave, who had no experience in the kitchen, but was down to de-head and gut a slimy catfish for me.

rain playing fetch with the dogs.

72 hour film shootout

this year, rain and tess play the lead again,
except they play very different characters from last year’s “cold war.”

i suggested the idea of a fairy tale
because i’m all about the whimsical stuff.
plus my heart’s been in a very hopeful mood lately.

audio too low, continuity issues, but i had some personal issues to deal with,
so no time to fix and we barely made the deadline,
but not too shabby for 72 hours to write, produce, shoot, edit… make a movie.

it’s officially online so check it out:
grace and the staten island fairy

(skip the first 30 seconds; it’s just bars, tones and stuff).
and if you like it, show us some love on youtube.

doggie this, doggie that.

when jimmy and i broke up,
i lost my photo adventure partner in crime
and consequently have been very uninspired to take much photos.

but ever since i got henri,
i’ve been meeting so many wonderful dogs and taking tons of doggie pictures.
now seriously considering being a pet photographer.

kyle’s olivie

alex’s alvin

a pug named simon i met at my neighborhood dog run

rain’s kit

and of course, henri

who has his own blog
not because i’ve become some fanatic who’s obsessed with their dog,
but because my family and friends keep asking for pictures,
so i figured it’s easier than sending mass emails every other day.

little person

last week was a bad week.

this week started off really well with
the new york asian american international film festival 72 hour shootout awards ceremony.

cold war” snagged four.

[tess also won best actress, rain as best actor]

so it’s nowhere near the academy awards,
but it still felt pretty damn good.

also, princess of nebraska played opening night.
it was cool to see some of my stills in the program and on the poster.

i don’t think i’ll never get excited seeing my stuff in print.

we made a film

the 72 hour film shootout is a nationwide competition organized by aafilmlab
where filmmaking teams have 72 hours to write, shoot, edit and produce short films
up to five minutes in length on a common theme.

this year’s theme was “a first goodbye.”

for 56 grueling hours, we sweat, bled and made “cold war”:

here’s a quick behind the scenes shot taken by tomur:

rain said, “christ! they should’ve just called it the schwinn vagina.”

“the princess of nebraska.”

how many actresses do you know
can look gorgeous on screen
without having to put on any makeup?

congratulations to logan, rain and crew
for launching their pilot episode of “72nd to canal.”

rain brought me along on set while i was in new york
and i took a couple of pics.

this nice man saw francis shooting and asked him to record him and his cute dog.

check out the show at
some really funny clips.

cuts, bruises and blisters

vegas’ charm is that everything here is artificial.
i’m in the paris hotel where the entrance is decked out like versaille,
except it’s not brass; it’s plastic, coated with brass colored paint.

and lenôtre cafe menus are all in french.
except that the cashiers don’t speak french.
so you have customers struggling to say feuilleté
and cashiers struggling to understand them.

the view from my room.

for those of you with large monitors.

“have you been to vegas?”
“yeah. i remember being there, going to new york new york and thinking,
‘christ! is this what people think new york is really like?'”

i wonder what it would look like if they built a hotel to look like san francisco.

straight out of a korean soap opera

i hate airports.
they’re depressing
because i’m always reminded that no matter where you go,
whatever adventures you embark on,
they always have to end.

(view from the plane)

and then you’re left with 2 gigs of photos, a buttload of memories

and you wake up thinking you’re still there,
but you’re here, alone in your cluttered apartment.

rain busted my ankle on new years eve while we were running to catch a taxi.
i was in linh’s four inch heels.

was supposed to head back to boston the the following day,
but i was immobile.
what a sneaky, clever way to get a girl to extend her stay in new york.

after steve poked me with needles,
i was miraculously able to walk again
so we took a day trip around the financial district yesterday.

rain, caught in the act.

he took this shot.

the digital 4300 is now completely broken.
i loaded a roll of film into the ricoh slr this morning.

when i actually do sleep, i sleep for long periods of time.

my pooh bear alarm clock says it’s six o’clock.
i peep outside my window and my reality is a lackluster shade of indigo.

how long have i slept?
will the sun rise?
or has it already set?
