ABOUT

Veanne Cao is a writer and director of Chinese and Vietnamese heritage whose work explores the Asian diaspora through a deeply personal lens.
Her father (pictured) worked as a video engineer in the analog days. Surrounded by Betacams, soundboards, and a couple of fresnels, she spent her childhood shooting whimsical narratives. That early exposure sparked a lifelong love for storytelling and led her to study film and media at the University of San Francisco, where she graduated summa cum laude.
She spent the next decade in video journalism before shifting into the creative agency space as a video director. Throughout, she continued to write and direct independent short films. Her work, ranging from intimate dramas to comedies inspired by life's small absurdities, has screened at festivals worldwide.
Veanne currently lives in Brooklyn with her partner and two shih-tzus.
